When recovered paper arrives at a paper mill, it is shredded, de-inked and mixed with hot water to obtain pulp. This process helps remove residual impurities and contaminants. The fibres suspended in water are then filtered several times before they can be used to produce new paper.

Perforated Plates for Screw Presses and Paper Recycling
Costacurta perforated plates for the pulp and paper industry are used inside screw presses, industrial machines designed for solid-liquid separation through mechanical pressing.
A screw press is a slow-moving machine in which a conical screw rotates inside a cylindrical perforated screen. The mixture of fibres and water is fed into the press. During the pressing process, the paper fibres are subjected to progressively increasing pressure against the metal screen. The holes allow the water to flow out while retaining the paper pulp.
Paper recycling makes it possible to convert approximately 95% of the collected paper material into new paper.
The Costacurta drilled plate forming the screw press screen is a key component of the machine. It must have sufficient thickness to withstand the pressure generated during operation and small holes with different profiles—cylindrical, conical or double cylindrical—to ensure effective water filtration and separation from the solid pulp.
